A World of Girls Journey, Session Two, Brownies
The girls continued to work on their world travel Journey Passports and world Travel Bags (made from cereal boxes).
The girls then went on a journey around the world through the exploration of taste with a "food flight." They discovered more about Mexico and their cultures as they tried papaya, likewise they learned about Iran and Northern India as they tried pomegranate juice. We discussed the cultures of Southeast Asia as we tried mango and southern Brazil when they tasted pineapple. The girls sampled three cheeses, Feta from Greece, Brie from France, and Fresh Mozzarella from Italy. We also had plantains to represent the Asian culture and candied ginger to model Southern China. We tried kumquats from Taiwan/ Japan. The girls enjoyed beverages from France, Orangina and French Berry Lemonade. I asked the girls to give each food a thumbs up or down as they experienced the taste of the new food or drink. We added a travel sticker to our world travel case for each country or region represented and a travel stamp to our passport. The girls wrote about their favorite food they had tried and added information (the countries flag, capital, and girl guide uniform) about the country the food represented to their passports.
Thank you for sharing your ideas! I am starting this journey with my girls next week.
